Microsoft has released a new compatibility pack for SMS 2003 SP3 that’s adds Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 as supported clients. However since main stream support for SMS 2003 has already ended I would highly recommend that you start migrating to Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 ASAP, and only use this update as a "workaround" until you everything migrated. Configuration Manager Service Pack 2 release candidate is now available for download for all customers on connect. Service Pack 2 delivers new platform support for both Windows 7, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2. For many of my customers, support for Windows 7 OS Deployment will be the primary reason to upgrade, and I think we’ll see the fastest adoption of a Service Pack in production environments ever… Everyone want to start deploying Windows 7 but they really need a supported deployment platform. Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 comes with allot of new great features. One of them is BranchCache that is designed to reduce WAN link utilization and improve application responsiveness for branch office workers who access content from servers in remote locations. Branch office client computers use a locally maintained cache of data to reduce traffic over a WAN link. The cache can be distributed across client computers or can be housed on a server in the branch.
